What Is Power Yoga?

Power yoga is a general term used in the West to describe a vigorous, fitness-based approach to vinyasa-style yoga. Power yoga does not follow a set series of poses, but a teaching philosophy that includes grounding, vinyasa flow, balance, clarity, and presence.  With emphasis on strength and flexibility, power yoga will leave you feeling invigorated and refreshed.

Why heat?

Because it feels great!  There are many benefits including boosting your circulation and increasing heart rate which makes power yoga at times a great cardio component.  Heat dilates our capillaries to increase the ‘oxygenation’ of our cells.

How hot is it?

Typically the thermostat is set at 85-90 degrees although some classes may not reach that temperature.  With lots of bodies moving and breathing together and the added humidity, you may sweat even more which delivers even more detoxing!

What if I am a beginner?

Everyone starts somewhere!  At Sundari, we welcome and encourage beginners to come and give it a try.  Feel free to ask questions, laugh, and have fun!  Classes are open to all levels.  Honor where you are today and be present on your mat, the rest will take care of itself.

Can’t touch your toes or not ‘in shape’?

Just let go and do as much as you can, or as much as you wish.  Resting poses are incorporated into a vinyasa flow class, but feel free to take child’s pose at anytime!  Even the most experienced of yogi’s take child’s pose.  It is all about listening to your body and letting go.

What should I expect?

BREATHING, MOVING, SWEATING, LAUGHING, AND FUN.  Anything goes here at Sundari, it is your practice!  Our goal is to get you flowing physically to allow your mind to flow freely ~ on and off your mat!
